Presentation: Diagnosing Conditions on Electric Motor Bearings Using Ultrasound Technology Presenter: Chuck Peterson, President, Peterson Predictive Maintenance LLC
Abstract: When properly maintained, electric motors can be quite reliable providing years of effective service. However, subtle changes in operating conditions when unnoticed may lead to inefficiencies that can affect performance and eventually lead to premature failure. Standard preventive procedures can help maintain performance while predictive inspections can identify any change that might lead to a premature failure condition. The most effective predictive technology for identifying a number of potential failure modes is ultrasound. This presentation will discuss the use of Ultrasound on Electric Motor Bearings and other bearings to help find the route cause of a failure, to predict failure and to prevent lubrication related failures.
We will discuss: - Misalignment - Soft foot - Proper Lubrication - Making a motor ready for service
Bio: Chuck Peterson, President, Peterson Predictive Maintenance LLC. Chuck has been involved in the predictive maintenance field for the last 19 years. For 6 of those years he was involved in starting a predictive maintenance program for KOCH Hydrocarbons in Hutchinson Kansas. There with the aid of his program the Mean Time Between Failures went from an average of two failures a month to about two failures a year.
Chuck is Level One certified in Infrared Thermography and Ultrasound Detection. He has also been trained in the specialized field of vibration monitoring and analyzing, with CSI Equipment and RBM-ware analyzing software.
